EMP, government shut downs, loss of power, water, terrorism threats etc...
..the list seems endless. The possibilities are real!
The possibility that we (may) have to leave our homes due to some sort of extreme emergency looms more probable now than ever for many. Yep, our comfy, warm, internet enabled, running water, indoor plumbing homes.
This evening here in northern Indiana it is a balmy 16 degrees with a wind chill approaching -20F.
So what if?
What if something happened in our society that forced a decision upon us?
The decision to shelter in place or (BUG OUT)?
For some the decision to do nothing will prevail in the hopes that local, state or federal agencies will be there to rescue them, provide for them. While emergency infrastructure does indeed exist, depending on it for a prolonged emergency will prove disastrous at best. Some emergencies will not be provided for.
Can you imagine scenarios where living becomes difficult?
How about scenarios where danger is all around us?
Nearly all experts in the field of survival agree; extended civil breakdown over a period of approx 2 weeks, a great percentage of the populace will simply die. As the emergency progresses over time, more will die. As the panic deepens we must make life saving decisions for ourselves and our families.
Disease rises rapidly as the dead are left un-buried.
Roaming violent gangs seek to survive by taking what they need from others with no regard for life.
State and federal agencies will isolate cities, essentially closing them off by way of martial law.
Pretty scary stuff? You bet it is. Real?
If you don't believe this can happen and are content in your belief that the government will help you through extended emergencies..stop reading now!
"But wait" you might say. "This hasn't happened in the past has it?"
Kinda' like saying "I've never been in a car accident so I don't need to wear my seat belt"
The signs are all around us; all each of us need to do is decide...
DO I WANT TO SURVIVE or QUIT?
A number of people feel if things get so bad, they would rather not be around anyway.
I have found the will to live, to persevere is a powerful human emotion.
Self preservation is not something we can shrug off or shut off; probably not something we can control.
*** There are some who will read this and say "You are all just a bunch of extremist (preppers).
So be it. I don't write this blog article as a "how to" or even to sway your opinion. I consider this as more of a wake up call for each of us to consider the possibilities.
TV shows like "PREPPERS" casts a poor light on those who wish to survive. That program is produced and directed by a very socialist liberal group. They would like nothing more than to have their TV shows wash over you like anesthesia.
"They" intentionally choose (survival) families who are whacked out extremists; even by my standards to marginalize those of us who desire to be prepared (IN THE EVENT OF).
I am NOT a extremist. I don't have a bomb shelter and don't believe the sky is falling..YET.
Am I prepared? You bet I am.
I have heard some call "survivalists" whackos, extremists, fringe elements.
I respond by asking who is the wise one (IF) it happens?
So tonight dear reader, try a simple exercise, especially tonight if you live here in northern Indiana:
You have 30 minutes to gather what you need.
Go outside; your own backyard is fine..see if you can survive for 30 mins in these temps. How about one hour?
No; you may not build a fire as that would easily give away your position.
Not fun is it?
Many books have been written by professional survivalists; people who have done what they write about. I will make no attempt to give instruction on how to build a fire without matches or a lighter; one can practice this on their own, or how to survive bitter cold temps w/o a external heating source.
Consider the possibilities, the scenarios and begin your preparations. It is not easy as there are so many possibilities to ponder. The dynamics alone of emergency preparedness are wide and deep.
Allow me to end with a simple scenario to consider.
THE POWER GRID HAS GONE DOWN
First, imagine all the things you will do without?
To name just a few:
1) No running water
2) No light
3) No heat (or AC) in summer
4) No cell phone
5) All electrical appliances are useless in time.
I'm sure we can all think of other problems associated with no electricity.
SURVIVAL 101
1) Water is essential to life. We can not survive beyond a few days without it. Where will you get it? Do you have enough? Do you know how to purify it? Can you find a source and identify safe drinking water?
2) FOOD: How much do you have? Is it the right type of nutrition? When the grocery stores are empty, where and how will you find it?
3) SHELTER: Staying in your home or hitting the road? Can you defend your home when others want what you have? Is your shelter safe? Is it warm" Is it dry? Is it concealed? Can you BUILD a shelter for you and yours? Can you build it in -10F or +100F?
4) SECURITY: Can you defend what you have? Should you defend it? How will you defend yourself or your loved ones?
5) MEDICAL: Can you provide basic first aid? Set a broken bone? Reduce a fever? Understand and apply natural anti-biotics? Suture a deep laceration?
"It Won't Ever Get That Bad"
Really?
Following the Boston Marathon bombing, the city of Boston was shut down in 20 minutes!
No one in; no one out. All roads into and out of Boston were shut down in 20 minutes!
Hurricane Katrina: Mass hysteria, disease infested water, violent looting!
Ferguson Missouri: Store owners were robbed and looting went on unabated. Law enforcement watched refusing to place themselves at risk. I don't blame them!
Think it can't happen?
Think again.
agreed...we shoud all be ready at some level
